Good Vision, Good Academic Grades

One of the primary challenges faced by every school is the pursuit of academic excellence. Interestingly, schools that prioritize vision wellness can anticipate outstanding performance from both their students and staff, leading to higher productivity and job satisfaction. According to the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), 90% of human activities and 80% of learning abilities are vision-dependent.

When a child has poor vision, it significantly hampers their ability to read, participate in sports, and learn effectively. Their self-confidence declines and their potential for success in school is greatly diminished. A child with unclear vision is a child who cannot reach their full learning potential.

Good Vision, Good Academic Grades Program

This program is a unique and cost-effective initiative designed for large institutions. Its aim is to offer valuable voluntary eye care benefits to pupils and students at significantly reduced rates. The scheme provides substantial savings on eye exams, eyeglasses, and the treatment of eye infections, often with little or no cost to the institution.

This arrangement involves a partnership between the school administration, our clinic, and, to some extent, the parents. It ensures that students receive prompt and “free” attention for their visual needs. As part of this, we regularly conduct vision screenings and comprehensive eye tests for the students and provide treatment and advice as needed, funded by contributions from parents.

Through this scheme, students with visual issues can be identified and treated promptly without requiring immediate payment. The program is ideal for schools seeking to enhance and maintain academic excellence, promote productivity, reduce errors, care for their students, and provide benefits to parents simultaneously.

How The Program Works

The program is designed to be straightforward for both schools and students. It involves establishing a common fund, which is maintained through an annual contribution of N10,000 per child into the eye care scheme. In the event of any vision problem, the child receives immediate and “free” treatment, covered by the scheme. This means that for the entire year, the child’s eye care needs are addressed with just N10,000.

With this N10,000 contribution, the following services are provided:

  • Vision assessment
  • Vision screening
  • Comprehensive eye examinations
  • Provision of eyeglasses
  • Management of eye issues
  • Training for teachers on how to identify children with vision problems
  • Counseling on children’s eye health and other related health matters.
