WARNING EYE SYMPTOMS TO LOOK OUT FOR.

watery red eyes,a symptom of eye problems

Early detection of these symptoms helps to tackle vision                 problems effectively. In today’s post, we will explore some of the most common vision problem symptoms you should be aware of.

EYE ISSUES WE SHOULD NEVER IGNORE

  1. EYE PAIN: Eye pain is one of the most common symptoms and may be described by throbbing, stabbing, or shooting pains in the eye. It can occur due to trauma, irritation caused by a foreign object (something stuck in our eye,) an infection, or another serious underlying condition. Eye pain with other symptoms, like headache, might be an acute problem indicating an underlying condition. However, if we feel it frequently, it needs the attention of an eye doctor.
  2. EYE FATIGUE OR DISCOMFORT: An extended reading period, screen time, or even driving can lead to eye fatigue, a sign of presbyopia (age-related difficulty focusing on close objects), or digital eye strain. This discomfort can manifest as sore eyes, a feeling of eyelid heaviness or difficulty focusing.
  3. HEADACHES: Headaches can feel different depending on what is causing them. Individuals can feel a dull ache or sharp pain behind their eyes, and it can come and go quickly, or they can linger for hours or days. If there are no serious underlying issues, over-the-counter medications can be beneficial. However, if regular headache medications are not working and the pain persists, it is advisable to consult healthcare professionals. Headaches can also be a symptom of eye conditions. Some of these conditions may be emergencies requiring an urgent call to your eye doctor immediately. Eye conditions that can cause headaches include: Photokeratitis(sunburn of the eyes),angle-closure glaucoma or corneal infection.
  4. SENSITIVITY TO LIGHT: Increased sensitivity to light, or photophobia, can be linked to several vision issues, including dry eye syndrome, corneal abrasions, or certain migraines. If bright lights cause discomfort or you are squinting often, it is worth discussing with your optometrist.
  5. FLASHES: Sudden flashes in your vision can be regular as you age, as this usually happens because of the vitreous fluid tugging or rubbing on the retina at the back of your eyes. If you notice lights that can appear as lightning flashes or bright stars, these can be the first signs of injury or other eye conditions. Conditions that can cause flashes include detached retina, torn retina, or migraine.
  6. SWELLING: Swelling in the eye can exhibit symptoms like the ones we have explored above, but swelling around the eye can be caused by other problems that your eye doctor can properly diagnose. Swelling could occur because of allergies, fluid retention, or eye infections that can cause permanent damage if left untreated. Swelling in the eyelids can also indicate serious health problems like orbital cellulitis or ocular herpes that can damage your vision forever.
  7. DOUBLE VISION: Double vision is a problem that should cause immediate concern, whether it occurs infrequently and randomly or all the time. It means a person seeing two images either next to one another or on top of another. It can immediately cause problems with balance, reading, and going about. If it occurs in one eye, it is monocular, but if it affects both eyes, it is binocular. It can be caused by several underlying conditions, from nerve and muscle damage to other illnesses that weaken eye muscles. It may also occur as a result of drug use or alcohol consumption. If it persists without the consumption of alcohol or drugs, it is a symptom that needs to be attended to right away.
