DEBUNKING THE COMMON MYTH ABOUT EYE TWITCHING

eye twitchiness

Some Nigerians, have subconsciously been made to believe that when eyelids spam involuntarily, which could be distracting and very uncomfortable by the way, it’s a sign of a bad omen.

Over time, most people have been made to believe that whether it’s a gentle flutter or a persistent pulse, they should be downright alarmed as to what’s to come or what’s behind this mysterious phenomenon.

In this blog post, we’ll debunk the common myth about eye twitching, and explore its common causes, symptoms and treatments. We will also provide insight and guidance to help you understand when eye twitching might be a sign of something more serious and requires medical attention. So, whether you’re experiencing eyelid spams or know someone who is, walk with us as we delve into the world of eye-twitching.

WHAT IS EYE TWITCHING?

An eyelid twitch is an uncontrollable type of movement of the eye (involuntary spasm), affecting one or both eyes. It is repetitive and affects the muscles in the eyelids or parts of the face immediately around your eye.

Eye twitching is normal, and it’s something everyone experiences, as most twitches are painless, harmless, and typically occur in unpredictable periods lasting between a few seconds and hours, which are sometimes resolved without medical intervention.

However, in rare cases, eyelid spasms may be an early warning sign or symptom of an underlying condition or a chronic movement disorder, especially if other facial tics or uncontrollable movements accompany the spasms. Chronic twitching could last for a few days or weeks and will need medical care. Therefore, eye twitching is actually a medical condition and has absolutely nothing to do with bad omens.

OTHER SYMPTOMS THAT MAY ACCOMPANY EYE TWITCHINESS

They include:

– Eyelid vibrating or fluttering

– Eye irritation or dryness

– Redness or swelling

Photophobia (Sensitivity to light)

Eye fatigue or strain.
