Have you blown air into someone’s eyes, or has someone ever blown air into your eyes?

If you have thoughtlessly blown air into your eyes, thinking it was harmless, then you are not alone. To be fair it is always in the bid to get instant relief from irritants such as dust, debris, and so on that get into the eyes, and on the flip side, it works as you would feel better after the encounter.

It is still unknown who discovered this trick although many of us have indulged in this practice at some point either to get relief when the eye feels uncomfortable or to help someone get relief. But these questions remain;

  • Do you think it is best to remove foreign bodies from the eyes with this practice?
  • Are you aware of the dangers of such practice to the eyes?

Different foreign bodies could get into the eyes, and they all have different risks because our eyes are delicate. So, depending on the type of foreign body, its location, its size, the amount of irritation it is likely to cause, and how firmly embedded it is in the eye tissue, the risks may vary. Therefore, blowing air into the eyes is not recommended as it hardly does any significant good and can have severe consequences for our ocular health.  Blowing air into the eyes is seemingly a regular practice by most people; however the risks associated with this are severe and potentially long-lasting.

Whether you are a concerned guardian or parent seeking to protect your wards or child’s vision, or you are a curious individual looking to learn more about your ocular health, this blog post will provide insights on how to avoid this harmful habit by giving practical tips to help prioritize the eyes, therefore, keeping them healthy and safe.
