EYE FATIGUE IN THE DIGITAL ERA

In this 21st century, you must have noticed that almost everyone has a digital device or a computer; consciously or subconsciously, we tend to use these devices for extended periods for entertainment purposes, like watching videos on our phones via various social media platforms or for work

  Now, when you spend too much time staring at a computer screen or digital device like your phone, you may experience headaches, blurry vision, and dry or irritated eyes; this sometimes makes you lose focus because the eyes may feel tired or uncomfortable, these symptoms may even reduce your productivity at work.

In this era, people prefer to use e-readers and smartphones  to read and write rather than printed text, so these problems have increased in the past decades. 

For some reason, reading texts on a computer screen or digital device is more strenuous on the eyes than reading printed text because we tend to blink 15-20 times a minute to spread tears evenly over our eyes to avoid dry eyes when reading printed texts. However, blinking is lesser when using a computer or digital devices; this is why working or reading on digital devices for some time may cause digital eye strain, but reading a book in a printed text may not!

WHAT IS DIGITAL EYE STRAIN?

Digital eye strain, also known as computer vision syndrome, it is a common issue in today’s screen-filled world. That results from prolonged use of computers or digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, and e-readers. Digital eye strain is not limited to a certain age, as both children and adults can experience it as long as they spend a reasonable amount of time on screens.
