(KERATITIS) PREPARING FOR A COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM

At this juncture, we have discussed keratitis and its type (infectious or non-infectious keratitis); it is no longer news that the delay in diagnosis and treatment of keratitis can lead to complications, including blindness; if you notice the signs of any of the types of keratitis, make an appointment to see your eye doctor immediately; this blog post aims to prepare you for your appointment and not just that but to inform you what to expect at your eye exams.

PREPARING FOR AN APPOINTMENT

You should book an appointment with your doctor if you have any eye-related symptoms that worry you; the optometrist is a primary eye care provider responsible for providing optimum ocular health.

If you wear contact lenses, do not wear them until the causative factor is known; however, ensure to carry your contact lenses and contact lens cases along for your eye check-up.

THINGS YOU CAN DO BEFORE AN APPOINTMENT

  • Write down any symptoms you are experiencing
  • Have a list of all medications you are taking
  • Write down questions to ask your optometrist in areas that are unclear you

SOME OF THE QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK INCLUDE:

· What is likely causing my symptoms?

· What kinds of tests do I need?

· What is the best course of action?

Do not be afraid to ask questions about anything you do not understand; your eye doctor will ask you several questions, so be mentally prepared to answer the questions correctly because of limited time.
