DO YOU KNOW WHICH PART OF YOUR EYE IS CALLED THE CORNEA?
A simple way to find out is to look into a mirror and carefully observe the transparent front part of your eye overlying the iris and the pupil (the black part of your eye).
It is a transparent medium through which light enters the eye for us to see/ perceive images; the cornea acts like the windshield of a car.
Imagine looking through a broken or damaged windshield of a car; the vision through that windshield would be affected; similarly, abnormalities in the cornea affect our vision. Hence, a need to take adequate care of it.
KERATITIS
Keratitis is an inflammation of the cornea. There are various reasons why your cornea can become inflamed.
Keratitis may or may not be associated with an infection.
There are two broad categories of keratitis:
- Non- infectious keratitis
- Infectious keratitis
NON-INFECTIOUS KERATITIS
It is an inflammation of the cornea with no known infectious cause.
INFECTIOUS KERATITIS
It is an inflammation of the cornea caused by an infection, which could be of bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic origin.
Can you tell the difference between both categories?
In our next post, we will be discussing the causes of keratitis. Stay tuned! For further inquiries and consultation, visit us at TREETOP VISION EYE CENTRE (TREVEC), the best eye clinic in Utako, Abuja.
