PINGUECULA CONT
Welcome back. Since our previous post, have you been glued to your mirror looking at your eyes or always searching your neighbuors to see if they have it? Now that you know what pinguecula is and that you may or may not have it, what causes it?
CAUSES OF PINGUECULA.
It would interest you to know that excessive exposure to sunlight, wind, and dust is the cause of it. This growth does not occur overnight. It takes time for this to happen.
TREATMENT OF PINGUECULA.
Although pinguecula is a harmless growth and usually requires no treatment, there are some instances where it may become red, swollen, cause discomfort, or alter the rate at which the tears wet the eyes. In such cases, treatments are given, usually in drug form or surgery (in rare cases).
One may say I don’t have it, but do you know that there is a high chance that you may develop it later if you fail to carry out some preventive measures that will help reduce your chances of developing one?
PREVENTION OF PINGUECULA.
The best way to prevent it is to protect your eyes from excessive sunlight, smoke, and dust by wearing a visor cap, sunglasses, or prescription glasses with properties to protect your eyes from ultraviolet radiation (UV) coming from the sun.
