PART ONE

Before we begin, let us share an encounter we had with you….

So last week, a good looking young lady walked into our facility and after exchanging pleasantries, she told us that she wears contact lenses but unfortunately she misplaced it and her previous contact lens was gotten while she in another state hence her visit to our eye clinic in utako, Abuja was to get another new pair of contact lens.

We asked the young lady if she had a medical report or a report with her contact lens prescription and she said no, we proceeded to explain to her that she would have to undergo contact lens evaluation first to know her ocular health and also to measure her base curve i.e. to measure the size of her cornea (the transparent layer making up the out most front part of the eyes). She out rightly refused and said we should just look at her spectacle  and give her a new pair of contact lens!! Need I add that the spectacle in question was gotten almost three years ago! All efforts to convince this lady proofed abortive and so she left.

This brings us to the topic at hand; most of us are like this lady, we wear contact lenses either as a medical aid to correct refractive errors or for fashion purposes without getting evaluated.  We tend to forget that these contact lenses sits on the eyes thus extra caution should be taken. If we are careful about what we eat, wear and so on, how much more the eyes?
